Routing is evolving to meet the new needs of service providers as they rearchitect their networks. Routers must now support the ongoing demand for more bandwidth and faster pipes while addressing the changes needed for cloud computing, 4G virtualization, and 5G migration. Virtual routers are gaining significant interest as a way to drive costs down while improving agility. However, there are a number of different approaches to virtualizing the router.
